Live Nation has confirmed a major data breach at Ticketmaster affecting 560 million customers, with hackers attempting to sell the stolen information on the dark web for $500,000.

The breach was discovered in a third-party cloud database environment, according to a May 20 securities filing. Hacker group ShinyHunters claims to have obtained 1.3 terabytes of user data, including:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Hashed credit card information
  • Order details

While passwords weren't compromised, Live Nation recommends users change their passwords as a precaution. The company has notified law enforcement and regulatory authorities and is working to mitigate risks to affected users.

ShinyHunters has a history of similar attacks, having targeted over 60 companies worldwide since 2020. This incident comes amid broader scrutiny of Live Nation, as the Justice Department recently filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to break up its partnership with Ticketmaster over monopolistic practices in the live ticket business.
