Ticketmaster Disputes Hackers' Claims Over Taylor Swift Eras Tour Ticket Data Breach
A major data breach at Ticketmaster has potentially exposed sensitive information from millions of customers, including barcode data from Taylor Swift's Eras Tour tickets, though the company maintains the tickets remain secure.

The breach, initially reported in May, allegedly compromised around 560 million consumer accounts. A hacker group identified as ShinyHunters demanded an $8 million ransom, claiming to have obtained 440,000 Eras Tour ticket barcodes among other sensitive data.
Ticketmaster released an official statement asserting their SafeTix technology protects tickets through automatically refreshing barcodes, making them impossible to steal or copy. The company denied engaging in any ransom negotiations.
However, another hacker group, Sp1d3rHunters, challenged Ticketmaster's claims, noting that physical tickets (Ticketfast, e-ticket, and mail) cannot be automatically refreshed. They issued a separate $2 million ransom demand, threatening to leak additional barcode data.
Key developments:
- Confirmed data breach in June 2024
- Multiple hacker groups involved with varying ransom demands
- Ticketmaster maintains tickets are secure through SafeTix technology
- Physical tickets may be vulnerable despite company assurances
- Class action litigation is currently ongoing
