Songwriter Fund Reopens Applications After Successful $400,000 Distribution to Music Creators

The Songwriter Fund is reopening applications for its third round of financial support after successfully distributing $400,000 in one-time relief payments to songwriters. The fund, backed by SONA and Sony Music Publishing, will begin accepting new applications on Wednesday, April 28th.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S.-based songwriter
  • 18 years or older
  • Minimum 2 years of professional songwriting experience
  • At least 2 years of PRO (Performing Rights Organization) membership

Application Process:

  • $1,000 grants available for critical life expenses
  • Must provide:
    • Personal information
    • Photo ID
    • PRO membership proof
    • Songwriting credits documentation
    • Evidence of financial need

The fund has received support from major industry players including:

  • Sony Music Publishing
  • SONA
  • Amazon
  • Spotify
  • Reservoir Media
  • Concord
  • Various individual donors

This initiative stands as one of only two funds specifically designed to support the songwriting community during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside PRS for Music's Emergency Relief Fund.

Grant funds must be used exclusively for essential expenses such as:

  • Food
  • Housing
  • Medical bills
  • Other critical living costs

The fund continues to provide crucial support for songwriters facing financial hardship, building on the success of its previous two distribution rounds from May 2020 and January 2021.
