Jakob Nowell recently performed with original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh at a Los Angeles benefit show for Bad Brains leader H.R. This marked the first time Gaugh had performed with the band since leaving in 2011.
Billboard reports that Jakob, along with his mother, has agreed with Wilson and Gaugh to relaunch Sublime under the management of Kevin Zinger and Joe Escalante. However, any official launch will likely wait until after Sublime With Rome completes their touring commitments through 2024.
Rome Ramirez shared on Instagram: "The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together!" He added that "carrying on the Sublime legacy has been a trust I'll forever cherish" while announcing plans to focus on solo music.
Jakob Nowell, who lost his father Bradley in 1996 when he was an infant, has been actively performing with his own band, Jakob's Castle, for over a decade. The name "Sublime With Rome" was originally created as a legal compromise with Troy Dendekker Nowell (Bradley's widow and Jakob's mother) who had previously sued to prevent the band from touring under just "Sublime."
Festival promoters are already showing strong interest in booking the potential new lineup, with offers being submitted for future performances. Jakob's Castle is currently scheduled to open for G Love & Special Sauce through March 2024, while Sublime With Rome will tour New Zealand in February 2024.
Management's Kevin Zinger noted before the benefit show, "If the vibe's there, the vibe's there" – and based on recent developments, it appears the vibe was indeed present for this new chapter in Sublime's history.
