Paramount Global is temporarily suspending several major entertainment events in 2025 as part of its strategic restructuring during the pending Skydance Media merger. The affected events include:

  • CMT Music Awards
  • MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs)
  • Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Mexico
  • MTV MIAWs (formerly MTV Millennial Awards)

The announcement came through an internal memo from Bruce Gillmer, Paramount's president of music, music talent, programming and events, who emphasized that this pause is temporary while the company "reimagines and optimizes" its events portfolio.

This decision follows Paramount's broader cost-cutting initiatives announced in August, which included:

  • 15% reduction in US workforce
  • Closure of Paramount TV Studios
  • Restructuring of CBS News operations
  • Expected savings of approximately $500 million

Despite these changes, Paramount maintains that events remain a crucial component of their music offering, with the company committed to delivering "iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture."

The merger between Paramount and Skydance Media is expected to close in the first half of 2025, potentially reshaping how these entertainment events will be structured and presented in the future.
