Michael Jackson Biopic 'Michael' Shifts to Awards Season Release in Late 2025
Lionsgate has rescheduled the release of 'Michael,' the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, from April 18 to October 3, 2025 - a six-month delay that positions the film for awards season consideration.

The film features Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, in the leading role, alongside a talented cast including Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Antoine Fuqua directs from a script by John Logan, with Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain producing.
'Michael' will showcase 30 of Jackson's songs and promises an extensive runtime to properly tell the icon's story. Director Fuqua expressed his personal connection to the project, noting Jackson's significant influence on his career and life.
The October release date mirrors the successful strategy used for 'Bohemian Rhapsody' - another Graham King-produced music biopic that grossed $903.6 million worldwide and won four Academy Awards.
This strategic move aligns with Lionsgate's broader 2025 slate, which includes the comedy 'Good Fortune,' starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen, scheduled for October 17.
