Diageo is exploring the sale of Cîroc Vodka following its terminated partnership with Sean "Diddy" Combs and recent market challenges. The London-based spirits company has begun reaching out to potential buyers, including beverage companies and private equity firms.

The decision comes after several significant developments:

  • Settlement of a lawsuit with Combs earlier this year, where he initially accused Diageo of racial discrimination regarding Cîroc Vodka and DeLeón Tequila management
  • Recent sexual abuse allegations and legal troubles surrounding Combs, including his September arrest on racketeering and sex trafficking charges
  • Declining performance in high-end spirits markets, particularly in China and the Americas
  • A 28% drop in Cîroc's North American net sales for the fiscal year ending in June
  • Overall company net sales decline of 1.4% in the last fiscal year

Despite these challenges, Cîroc maintains a strong presence in the nightclub scene, potentially attracting buyers interested in a brand turnaround. The sale aligns with Diageo's broader portfolio management strategy, which recently included divesting Pampero Rum and Safari flavored liqueur.

Diageo, which also owns Ketel One and Smirnoff vodka brands, has declined to comment on the potential sale, though they previously stated that "disciplined and strategic portfolio management will continue to be an integral part of our capital allocation strategy."
