The achievement comes amid a significant copyright infringement lawsuit, where artists Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens are seeking $5 million in damages. They claim "No Guidance" copies their 2016 song "I Got It," citing identical musical elements including chord progressions, tempo, melody, and structure.
The lawsuit names multiple defendants including:
- Chris Brown and Drake
- Co-writers Velous, Nija Charles, and Michee Lebrun
- Producers Noah "40" Shebib, Vinylz, J-Louis, and Teddy Walton
- RCA Records and other music publishers
The case has additional complexity involving YouTube, with Stephens claiming defamation after his channel was deleted following a takedown request he filed for "No Guidance." This marks the second copyright lawsuit involving the song, with a previous 2021 case being dropped.
