The revival follows a successful 50th anniversary special in October 2023, which drew approximately 6 million viewers - a 54% increase from the 2022 ceremony on ABC. The special also achieved record-breaking streaming numbers, generating 65 million social media views within its first week.

The 2024 ceremony will feature a special tribute to veterans through performances and celebratory moments. CBS has already teased appearances from major artists including Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Shakira, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Olivia Rodrigo.

The AMAs' history dates back to 1974 when Dick Clark created the show for ABC after the network lost Grammy Awards rights to CBS. The show remained on ABC until 2022, when the network opted not to renew its contract. The most recent ceremony in 2022 saw Taylor Swift extend her record as the most-awarded artist in AMAs history with six additional wins.

While the specific Las Vegas venue and host haven't been announced yet, this new chapter for the AMAs comes at a time when traditional awards shows have been facing declining viewership across the board, including the Grammys, Oscars, and Emmys.
