TikTok temporarily shut down its U.S. operations on January 19, just hours before the federal ban deadline. The shutdown occurred after ByteDance failed to meet the divestment requirements outlined in Biden-signed legislation.

Initially, TikTok sent users this notification: "We regret that a U.S. law banning TikTok will take effect on January 19 and force us to make our services temporarily unavailable. We're working to restore our service in the United States as soon as possible."

After midnight, the message was updated following President-elect Trump's announcement on Truth Social promising an executive order to extend the implementation period: "A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the United States. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office."

TikTok's latest statement confirms they're working with service providers to restore access and will collaborate with President Trump on a long-term solution to maintain operations in the United States, serving their 170 million American users and 7 million small businesses.
