TikTok and Douyin Break Records with $6 Billion in Annual In-App Purchases
TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin have become the first non-gaming apps to exceed $6 billion in annual in-app purchases, according to recent Sensor Tower data. The platform achieved a record-breaking $1.9 billion in gross IAP revenue during Q4 2024.

This remarkable performance puts TikTok ahead of all other apps and games, with revenue more than double that of second-place Monopoly Go ($2.6 billion). The platform's IAP revenue showed a substantial increase of $4.4 billion compared to 2023.
Despite ranking second in Q4 2024 downloads behind Instagram, TikTok's revenue growth remains strong. The platform's monetization success stems from:
- Virtual gifts purchased by users for creators (TikTok retains 50% of payouts)
- Growing e-commerce integration, particularly in Douyin
- Expanding in-stream shopping features
The data includes both TikTok and Douyin revenues, with Douyin operating under stricter Chinese regulations and focusing more heavily on e-commerce. Having already reached $10 billion in total consumer spending in 2023, TikTok's growth trajectory suggests even higher numbers for 2025.
