Ticketmaster Cancels Legitimate Oasis Fan Tickets While Targeting Bot Purchases
Ticketmaster is canceling thousands of suspected bot-purchased tickets for the upcoming Oasis tour, but legitimate fans claim their valid tickets are being wrongfully invalidated.
Live Nation announced in October 2024 that approximately 50,000 tickets would be canceled for being resold through unauthorized platforms. The company has now expanded these cancellations to include tickets allegedly purchased using automated software.

Key points about the ticket cancellations:
- Affected customers are being notified via email since Friday
- Refunded tickets' barcodes will be voided
- Findings from the bot investigation will be shared with law enforcement
- Canceled tickets will be resold at face value
Ticketmaster's stance: "Any tickets that have been identified to have been purchased by bots will be refunded, as this violates the tour's terms and conditions," stated Ticketmaster UK. The company's "Expert Abuse and Fraud teams" reviewed all sales but declined to share specific detection methods to prevent exploitation by scalpers.
Fan complaints: Multiple fans report having their legitimate tickets canceled despite following proper purchase procedures. One affected customer wrote on X: "I didn't do anything other than buy my tickets for me & my friend during presale."
Appeal process: Ticketmaster has provided a form for affected customers who believe their refunds were made in error. These appeals will be reviewed by the tour's promoters.
This development follows other Oasis tour controversies, including:
- Extremely high ticket prices
- A CMA investigation into Ticketmaster
- A proposed UK government cap on ticket resale prices
The band's North American shows, which avoided dynamic pricing, sold out with notably fewer issues.
