A decades-long internet mystery has finally been solved, revealing the identity of "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet." The song, which puzzled online communities for nearly 20 years, was recorded from German radio in the 1980s.

The track was first digitally shared in 2007 by a Reddit user known as bluuely (Lydia), who sought information about the song her sibling recorded from what was believed to be NDR1's "Musik Für Junge Leute" program.

The mystery gained significant traction in 2019 when it spread across Reddit and caught mainstream attention through a popular YouTube video, eventually leading to coverage by Rolling Stone magazine.

The breakthrough came through investigation of Hörfest, a Hamburg-based music festival. A Redditor discovered an old newspaper article about a band called FEX from Kiel, who won a talent contest in 1984. Further research led to Michael Hädrich, a former member of the band Phret, who confirmed the song was titled "Subways of Your Mind."

Hädrich, surprised by the song's internet fame, has since registered it with GEMA (German music rights organization) and released a cleaner version of the recording. The mystery song was finally identified as a creation of his band FEX, ending two decades of speculation and online detective work.
