Survey Reveals 98% of New Cars Still Feature AM Radio in Dashboards
A new survey by car tech research company Quu reveals that AM radio remains installed in 98% of the top 100 best-selling new American vehicles, while FM radio maintains 100% presence.

The 2024 In-Vehicle Visuals Report shows that traditional radio maintains strong competition against newer technologies:
- FM Radio: 100% presence
- AM Radio: 98% presence
- SiriusXM: 92% presence
- Android Auto/Apple CarPlay: 98% presence
While AM/FM radio remains prevalent, the dashboard has become increasingly crowded. Two-thirds of new vehicles now come equipped with HD radio capabilities, though GM notably only includes standard HD radio in their Cadillac line.
The continued presence of AM radio holds particular significance for emergency communications. FEMA has invested heavily in the Emergency Alert System through AM radio infrastructure, making it crucial during natural disasters and emergencies. This has prompted multiple state Attorneys General to advocate for the AM Radio For Every Vehicle Act, highlighting AM radio's role in public safety.
