Spotify Launches Video Podcast Monetization Program and New Video Features for Creators
Spotify is expanding its video capabilities with a new monetization program for video podcasts and several video-related features. This announcement came during the company's "Now Playing" event, presented by CEO Daniel Ek and CTO Gustav Söderström.

Key Features of the New Program:
- Open to creators in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia
- Requires minimum 10,000 streamed hours in last 30 days
- Revenue from both Spotify and other platforms
- Ad-free viewing option for Premium subscribers
- Single-podcast subscription options
- Integration with Patreon and Substack
Video consumption on Spotify has shown significant growth, with 64% of listeners now preferring video podcasts, up from 43% in 2021. Currently, over 250 million users watch video podcasts on the platform.
New Video Features Include:
- Customizable video thumbnails
- Improved audience analytics dashboard
- Thumbnail scrubbing
- Pinch to zoom capability
- Video chapters
- Support for 90-second short-form videos (one per episode)
The program launches January 2nd, focusing on providing creators with multiple revenue streams while maintaining user experience. Revenue will be based on streaming volume, with special emphasis on video content consumption.
