Reservoir Media has acquired Lastrada Entertainment's publishing catalog, encompassing over 5,600 compositions from prominent artists across multiple genres. The deal includes significant works from legendary performers and modern hip-hop artists through sample usage.

Key compositions in the acquisition include:

  • Jim Croce's "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle"
  • Captain & Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together"
  • Zapp's "More Bounce to the Ounce"

Through sample usage, the catalog features works recorded by numerous contemporary artists including:

  • Drake
  • Kanye West
  • Eminem
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Ice Cube
  • Rick Ross
  • Usher
  • Ne-Yo

Notable samples include 2Pac's "California Love," which incorporated Ronnie Hudson's "West Coast Poplock" from the Lastrada catalog.

Stephen Moelis, former president of music publishing at Lastrada, called the sale "the natural next step" for the 38-year-old company. Reservoir's COO Rell Lafargue committed to preserving "the legacy the Moelis family has built."

The acquisition follows Reservoir's recent focus on hip-hop investments, including publishing deals with Snoop Dogg and Death Row. This transaction adds to the growing trend of major IP acquisitions in the music industry, following Sony Music's reported $600 million purchase of 50% of Michael Jackson's catalog in 2024.

The financial terms of the Lastrada acquisition were not disclosed, but the deal represents a significant addition to Reservoir's growing catalog of music rights.
