New Orleans' Ledisi to Perform Black National Anthem at Super Bowl LIX

"Lift Every Voice and Sing" has been a Super Bowl tradition since 2020, with previous performances by Alicia Keys (2021), Mary Mary (2022), and Andra Day (2024). The song, written in 1899 by civil rights activist James Weldon and composed by his brother John Rosamond Johnson, was originally created to celebrate President Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Otis Jones IV will provide the American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.
The pre-game show will also feature:
- Jon Batiste (New Orleans native) - "The Star-Spangled Banner"
- Lauren Daigle (Louisiana native) - "America the Beautiful" with Trombone Shorty
"It's going to be a beautiful opportunity for us to showcase what New Orleans represents, and the culture, and the beauty of unity in music," Daigle shared with NOLA.com, emphasizing the significance of representing her city on this global stage.
The Super Bowl LIX, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Philadelphia Eagles, will take place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The pre-game performances begin at 6:30 pm ET, available on Fox and streaming platforms Fubo and Tubi.
