Louisiana GOP Lawmakers Demand 'Family-Friendly' Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, Criticize Past Performances
Louisiana legislators, along with 16 other Republican representatives, have issued an open letter criticizing past Super Bowl Halftime performances and demanding more family-friendly entertainment for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Legislators criticize Super Bowl halftime show
The legislators argue that since Louisiana taxpayers contribute to hosting Super Bowls, they should have input on the performances' content. Their main concerns focus on recent shows they deemed inappropriate:
- Rihanna's 2023 performance, which they claim contained offensive lyrics
- The 2020 show featuring Jennifer Lopez
- The 2004 performance with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake's "wardrobe malfunction"
The letter states: "These lewd acts are inappropriate for viewing by children, objectify women, and are simply NOT welcomed by the majority of Louisiana parents." They're requesting that future contracts for state-funded facilities include provisions ensuring performers adhere to "Louisiana's community decency standards."
While existing contracts for the upcoming Super Bowl are already in place, making immediate changes unlikely, the legislators hope their demands will influence future event planning. The request comes despite New Orleans' reputation for adult entertainment, particularly in areas like Bourbon Street.
