Key Details of the Lawsuit:
- Defendants include Lil Durk, manager Andrew Bonsu, Only the Family group/label, and consulting firm TTPMG
- Dispute centers on rights to a recording called "Bedtime"
- Exceed paid $450,000 of a planned $600,000 total payment
- Agreement would have given Exceed perpetual royalties and exploitation rights
The Contract Issue:
Alamo Records (Sony Music) revealed in May that Lil Durk was under an exclusive recording agreement, meaning the defendants had no authority to sell rights to "Bedtime." This contradicted earlier assurances from Bonsu and TTPMG CEO Oretha Lee about their authority to transfer song interests.
Damages Sought:
- $450,000 initial payment return
- $600,000 contractual penalty
- Additional damages for:
- Reputational harm
- SEC registration expenses
- Investor refund costs
- Total exceeding $12 million
When Exceed attempted to recover its investment and address the breach, they were reportedly "met with resounding silence" from the defendants.
