Five major Korean music organizations, including the Korea Management Federation and Recording Industry Association of Korea, have issued a joint statement urging lawmakers to protect exclusive contracts in K-pop through new legislation.

The controversy began when NewJeans moved to terminate their contract with Ador and rebranded as NJZ. The group has since launched new initiatives, including a Calvin Klein partnership and planned performances, while maintaining their original lineup.

Hybe and Ador contest the contract termination's validity, with legal proceedings set to begin March 7th. Meanwhile, NJZ continues operating under their new name, creating tension within the K-pop industry.

The industry organizations argue that unilateral contract terminations threaten K-pop's foundation and business model, which relies on long-term artist development and binding agreements. They've called for disputes to be handled privately rather than through public channels.

NJZ members' parents, managing the group's PR through Instagram, defend the contract termination and oppose the proposed anti-tampering law. They recently accused Hybe's Bang Si-Hyuk of attempting to cancel NJZ's ComplexCon appearance - a claim Ador denies, stating they only requested use of the name "NewJeans" and proper coordination with Hybe.

The organizations plan to hold a press conference on February 27th to further discuss the proposed legislation.
