John Mayer and McG to Acquire Historic Jim Henson Studio Lot for $60 Million in Hollywood Deal
Grammy-winning musician John Mayer and filmmaker McG are set to purchase the historic Jim Henson Studio lot in Hollywood for a reported $60 million. The property, located at 1416 N. La Brea in Los Angeles, has been home to The Muppets and previously housed A&M Records and Charlie Chaplin Studios.

The Jim Henson Company listed the property for sale to consolidate its operations with Jim Henson's Creature Shop into a single facility, as the current Hollywood lot cannot accommodate both. While rumors circulated about the Church of Scientology's interest in the property, the Henson family confirmed they were not considered as potential buyers.
The historic lot has played a significant role in Hollywood since 1917, when Charlie Chaplin established his studio there. After Chaplin sold it in 1953, the property hosted various television productions before becoming A&M Records' headquarters in 1966. The Jim Henson Company acquired it in 1999 for $12.5 million, with its value reaching $21.9 million by 2017.
Mayer already maintains offices at the location and uses its recording facilities, making this acquisition a natural expansion of his existing relationship with the property. While the exact purchase price remains undisclosed, representatives for both Mayer and McG have confirmed they are under contract to buy the studio.
