Jay-Z Files Countersuit Against Accuser and Lawyer, Claims Defamation After Rape Case Dismissal
Jay-Z has filed a countersuit against a Jane Doe and her attorney Tony Buzbee for defamation and extortion following their dropped sexual assault case against him. The lawsuit comes after the anonymous accuser withdrew her allegations against both Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Diddy (Sean Combs).

The original lawsuit, filed in October and amended in December, alleged that Carter and Combs sexually assaulted Doe in 2000 when she was a minor at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty. Carter's legal team claims these allegations were "knowingly false" and "maliciously" timed to cause maximum damage to his reputation.
According to Carter's filing, Buzbee sent an "extortionate" demand letter before publicly naming him in the lawsuit. The filing also alleges that Doe admitted to Buzbee that she hadn't been sexually assaulted, but was pushed to pursue the false story for financial gain.
Carter is seeking actual, assumed, and punitive damages for:
- Malicious prosecution
- Abuse of process
- Civil conspiracy
- Defamation
In response, Buzbee told Variety that the new case "has no legal merit" and accused Carter's investigators of harassing and intimidating the accuser. He claims the quotes attributed to Doe in Carter's lawsuit are fabricated and maintains that his client stands by her original claims.
