Iggy Azalea to Sue Universal Music Over Millions in Unpaid Global Royalties
Iggy Azalea has publicly accused Universal Music Group (UMG) of withholding royalty payments allegedly worth "8 figures" for her music performances outside the United States. The Australian rapper plans to pursue legal action after a two-year private dispute failed to reach resolution.

Key Points of the Dispute:
- Azalea claims UMG has not paid "a single royalty" for international performances
- A forensic audit has reportedly been conducted over the past two years
- UMG allegedly offered an $18,000 settlement, which Azalea rejected
- The artist signed with Island Def Jam (a UMG subsidiary) in 2013
Azalea alleges that UMG typically relies on artists' inability to afford forensic accounting and legal battles, making it difficult for them to pursue rightful payments. However, following her "eight-figure" catalog deal with Domain Capital in November 2022, she states she has the resources to pursue legal action.
This dispute follows similar royalty-related legal challenges against UMG, including Limp Bizkit's recent lawsuit, which faced partial dismissal in January. The band has since filed an amended 120-page action, with a dismissal hearing scheduled for March 24th.
For context, UMG has responded to similar cases by challenging the plaintiffs' claims and requesting dismissals, though they have not yet publicly responded to Azalea's accusations.
Note: While Azalea has made these claims publicly, no concrete evidence has been presented yet to support the allegations of unpaid royalties.
