Ken Caillat, renowned producer of Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" album, has filed a federal lawsuit against the creators of the Tony Award-winning Broadway play "Stereophonic," claiming copyright infringement of his 2012 memoir "Making Rumours."

The lawsuit, filed on October 1 in New York federal court, alleges that playwright David Adjmi's "Stereophonic" copies substantial elements from Caillat's memoir, co-authored with Steven Stiefel. The play, which has earned over $20 million since its Broadway debut in April and won five Tony Awards, allegedly mirrors Caillat's detailed account of recording with a five-member, mixed-gender, British-American rock band in California during 1976-1977.

Attorney Brian Williams of Greenberg Gross, representing Caillat and Stiefel, argues that "Stereophonic" directly benefits from their clients' intellectual property. The lawsuit cites numerous similarities between the works, including characters, storylines, settings, and dialogue.

The legal complaint emphasizes that multiple news outlets have noted the obvious connections between the play and Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" album. Additionally, Adjmi's reported plans to adapt "Stereophonic" into a film allegedly interfere with Caillat's existing plans for a film adaptation of his memoir.

Caillat and Stiefel are seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction to halt all further exploitation of the Broadway play, including its performance, publication, and broadcast.
