Lady Gaga Faces Lawsuit Over Surf Company's Trademark Mayhem Logo
California surf company Lost International has filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga, claiming trademark infringement over the Mayhem logo used in her new merchandise line.

Lost International alleges that Gaga's Mayhem logo is "substantially similar if not nearly identical" to their trademark, which they've been using since 1986 for surfboards, equipment, clothing, and accessories. The company registered the trademark in 2015, and "Mayhem" is the nickname of co-founder Matt Biolos.
The lawsuit claims that:
- The similar logos may mislead consumers about product origin
- Lost International has lost control over their brand's goodwill
- A cease and desist letter to Gaga's team was ignored
Lady Gaga's attorney, Orin Snyder, responded by calling the lawsuit "opportunistic and meritless," stating that someone is attempting to capitalize on her success. The album Mayhem debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and Gaga is scheduled to begin her Mayhem Ball tour in July, featuring 32 shows across North America, Europe, and the UK.
In describing the album to ELLE magazine, Gaga explained that "Mayhem is about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life that it takes you to," noting that the album's creation was "a labor of total love."
Lost International is seeking a trial by jury to resolve the trademark dispute.
