Eagles Debut at Sphere with New Guitarist as Steuart Smith Steps Down Due to Parkinsonism

The Eagles have welcomed guitarist Chris Holt to their lineup for their 2025 Sphere shows following Steuart Smith's retirement due to a Parkinsonism diagnosis. Smith, who performed with the band for 25 years, announced his departure citing performance issues related to his condition.
"It's been a great quarter of a century, and I had hoped to finish out this year with the band, but I must now do what's best for all concerned," Smith stated in his retirement announcement. Don Henley expressed the band's gratitude, noting that Smith "will always be a part of our musical family."
Chris Holt, an accomplished guitarist who has performed with artists including Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, James Taylor, and Stevie Nicks, steps into the role with deep respect for his predecessors. His most recent work includes touring with Mike Campbell's Dirty Knobs.
Speaking to The Dallas Morning News, Holt acknowledged the significance of his new position: "I'm trying to fill the giant shoes of all three that came before me," referring to Stueart Smith, Don Felder, and Bernie Leadon. "It's some of the most beautiful guitar work ever recorded, in my opinion. It's the highest honor for me to do it and it's my duty to get it right."
The Eagles will continue their Sphere concerts through April 2025 with Holt as their new guitarist.
