Approximately 10,000 AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to Deezer daily, representing about 10% of the platform's total daily content delivery. The streaming service has responded by implementing an AI music detector and announcing plans to exclude artificial tracks from recommendations.

Deezer's AI detector currently focuses on identifying tracks from prominent AI music generators like Suno and Udio. The company is developing capabilities to detect AI-generated content without specific training datasets, which will be crucial as new AI music generators emerge.

Key findings about AI music on Deezer:

  • Most AI-generated tracks never receive any streams
  • The influx is diluting the catalog and poses fraud risks
  • AI uploads represent approximately 10% of daily content
  • Platform receives about 100,000 new tracks daily overall

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier emphasized that while AI has potential benefits for music creation, its use must be responsible to protect artists' and songwriters' rights and revenues. The company plans to:

  • Develop a tagging system for AI-generated content
  • Remove AI tracks from algorithmic recommendations
  • Exclude AI content from editorial recommendations

For context, Deezer currently offers access to over 120 million tracks, while Spotify provides access to over 100 million. This development comes as Luminate reports that daily new recordings on DSPs averaged 99,000 in 2024, showing a 4.4% decrease from 2023.

The rising tide of AI-generated music raises concerns about artistic integrity and fair compensation, potentially leading to broader discussions about separating human and AI-created content on streaming platforms.
