The film, directed by James Mangold, chronicles Dylan's early years in New York's Greenwich Village folk scene during the 1960s, culminating in his historic electric performance of "Like a Rolling Stone" at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Dylan noted that the film draws from Elijah Wald's 2015 book "Dylan Goes Electric!" and recommended readers explore the book after watching the movie. In response to Dylan's endorsement, Chalamet expressed his gratitude, stating he was "floored" by the legend's support.

The production benefits from Dylan's involvement, with Mangold conducting multiple meetings with the musician and receiving his input on the script. Dylan's manager, Jeff Rosen, serves as a producer for the film.

The stellar cast includes:

  • Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez
  • Edward Norton as Pete Seeger
  • Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash
  • Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie
  • Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo (a fictional character inspired by Suze Rotolo)

"A Complete Unknown" is scheduled for release on December 25, offering audiences an intimate look at the formative years of one of music's most influential artists.
