ISNI is a globally recognized standard that provides unique identifying numbers to contributors of creative works, including musicians, artists, producers, publishers, and other industry professionals. As an ISO 22729-certified system, it works alongside other international standards like DOI, ISAN, ISBN, ISRC, ISSN, and ISWC.
Key Benefits of ISNI Implementation:
- Unambiguous attribution of music and creative works
- Enhanced search and discovery for listeners
- Streamlined digital workflows for rights management
- Improved copyright and royalties administration
- Better correlation between different platforms
Tim Devenport, ISNI International Agency's Executive Director, praised the move: "Leveraging ISNI's capabilities as a bridging identifier — alongside Apple ID and other international standards — should further streamline the information exchanges underlying digital discovery to the benefit of creators and consumers alike."
This implementation represents a significant step forward in standardizing music industry metadata, ensuring accurate attribution and simplified rights management across the global digital music ecosystem.
