Amazon remains Anthropic's largest investor, having committed $8 billion total through two major investments: $4 billion in September 2023 and another $4 billion in November 2024. The current round is being led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

The company's rapid growth is reflected in its recent financial performance, with annualized revenue reaching approximately $875 million, primarily from business customers. This still trails OpenAI, which projects $3.7 billion in revenue from its premium ChatGPT offerings.

Anthropic recently strengthened its commitment to responsible AI by implementing enhanced guardrails to prevent copyrighted content from appearing in responses while maintaining the ability to improve these protections over time.

For context, other major AI valuations include:

  • OpenAI: $157 billion (October 2024)
  • xAI: $50 billion (December 2024)
  • Perplexity: $9 billion (Latest round)
