YouTube is expanding its generative AI capabilities in Shorts with enhanced features powered by Google DeepMind's Veo 2 video generation model.

The upgraded Dream Screen feature now allows creators to generate standalone video clips from text prompts, in addition to creating AI backgrounds. The new system produces higher quality videos with improved understanding of physics and human movement, making content more realistic and detailed.

How to Use Dream Screen:

  1. For video backgrounds:

    • Open Shorts camera
    • Select Green Screen
    • Choose Dream Screen

    • Tap Add for media picker
    • Select Create at the top
    • Input prompt and select image
    • Choose clip length

For transparency, YouTube implements SynthID watermarks and clear labels to identify AI-generated content. The features are currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with global expansion planned for the future.
