Wiz Khalifa Faces Legal Charges in Romania Over On-Stage Cannabis Incident
Romanian prosecutors have indicted Wiz Khalifa for smoking cannabis during his performance at the Beach Please! festival on the Black Sea coast. The rapper, whose legal name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was investigated by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
The incident occurred on July 13 when authorities found Khalifa in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis after his performance in Costinesti. Romanian law prohibits cannabis possession, with penalties ranging from three months to two years imprisonment.
Khalifa apologized on social media, stating: "Last night's show was amazing. I didn't mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up onstage. They were very respectful and let me go. I'll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time."
The rapper is well-known in the cannabis industry, operating Khalifa Kush, a cannabis brand featuring a custom-developed strain. Earlier in 2023, he made headlines for openly discussing cannabis use before throwing the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game.
