Voice AI Startup PlayAI Raises $21M to Build Human-Like Voice Interfaces Across Applications
PlayAI, a conversational voice AI startup, has secured $21 million in seed funding to develop human-like voice interfaces for various applications. The Palo Alto-based company, formerly known as PlayHT, launched its core platform in early 2024.

- PlayDialog: An advanced end-to-end AI speech model
- PlayNote: A comprehensive narration and podcast creation tool
- Voice replication technology
- AI voice agents for customer service
- API capabilities with third-party LLM support
The funding round was led by Kindred Ventures and 500 Global, with participation from Race Capital, Y Combinator, Soma Capital, Pioneer Fund, and TRAC. Steve Jang from Kindred Ventures joins as a board observer.
Co-founder and CEO Mahmoud Felfel, a former WhatsApp software engineer, emphasizes that the funding will help accelerate the development of human-quality speech experiences. The company plans to invest in platform improvements and reduce implementation time for businesses.
