Travis Scott, SZA, and Future Hit With Copyright Lawsuit Over 'Telekinesis' by Roc Nation Artist
Victory Boyd, a Roc Nation-signed artist, has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Travis Scott, SZA, and Future over their track "Telekinesis." The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court, also names Sony Music and other defendants.

According to the lawsuit, Boyd wrote and recorded a demo titled "Like the Way It Sounds" in November 2019, which she shared with Kanye West. The song was later copyrighted under registration number SR0000986420. West allegedly played Boyd's song for Travis Scott in a Wyoming studio and left it there, where Scott reportedly accessed it.
In May 2023, Scott allegedly introduced the song to SZA and Future, leading to the release of "Telekinesis" in July 2023. Boyd claims her work was used without permission, noting that she appears as a co-writer in streaming metadata. Currently, "Like the Way It Sounds" appears as a top result when searching for "Telekinesis" on platforms like Spotify and YouTube.
The situation escalated when Audemars Piguet, a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer and defendant in the case, contacted Boyd about licensing "Telekinesis" for an advertising campaign in November 2023. Despite Boyd's denial, the usage proceeded without proper authorization.
The defendants reportedly offered Boyd an 8% writing credit on "Telekinesis," which she declined. Instead, she is pursuing legal action, seeking:
- Substantial damages
- A preliminary injunction to halt further broadcasting of "Telekinesis"
- Additional legal remedies
