Tradiio is launching a virtual music stock market platform in England in February 2015. Based in Portugal and backed by Espírito Santo Ventures and Exago Ventures, the free platform allows users to invest virtual coins in emerging artists.

Key features:

  • Users listen to uploaded music and invest virtual coins in artists they like
  • Virtual earnings can be exchanged for real rewards like festival tickets
  • Successful artists can earn festival slots, studio time, radio play, press coverage, and label deals

The platform has secured partnerships with Punch Magazine, Dummy, and other industry players. Additional funding rounds are planned for 2015.

Quality control measures:

  • Artists join through organic discovery, digital marketing, direct label contact, or partnerships
  • Industry experts help curate content
  • Crowdsourced voting system helps surface quality content
  • Network of labels, A&Rs, promoters, and bloggers validate artists

The platform aims to address income inequality in the music industry, where currently:

  • 10% of artists receive most revenue
  • Only 1% earn significant income
  • Majority of artists struggle to monetize

While some critics question the viability of another music discovery platform, Tradiio's focus on industry partnerships and tangible rewards aims to differentiate it from previous attempts in this space.
