TikTok US Traffic Recovers to 90% Despite Recent App Store Removal and Shutdown
TikTok's US traffic has largely recovered to pre-shutdown levels, with current usage only about 10% lower than before the temporary ban, according to Cloudflare Radar data. This recovery comes despite the app's 14-hour shutdown and ongoing removal from Google and Apple app stores.

During the shutdown, TikTok usage dropped by 85%, while alternative apps like RedNote saw brief traffic spikes. However, these competing platforms' traffic quickly declined once TikTok resumed operations.
The shutdown occurred after the Supreme Court upheld a law requiring ByteDance to sell its US TikTok operations or face a ban. President Trump later postponed the ban's enforcement by signing an executive order extending the deadline to April 5.
Key developments:
- TikTok remains unavailable on Google and Apple app stores
- Several investors, including Frank McCourt, Kevin O'Leary, and MrBeast, have proposed deals to acquire US operations
- Trump suggested Elon Musk or Oracle chairman Larry Ellison as potential partial owners
- Meta is offering creators incentives to prioritize Instagram content
Despite these challenges, many creators continue to maintain their presence on TikTok, while others have diversified to platforms like YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
According to David Belson, head of data insight at Cloudflare Radar, "DNS traffic for TikTok-related domains has continued to recover since service restoration," indicating the platform's resilience in maintaining its user base despite regulatory challenges.
