Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and City Spud have removed themselves from the legal action, leaving Ali Jones as the sole plaintiff. The three members clarified they never agreed to be part of the lawsuit and requested their removal from the case.
Ali's attorney, Precious Felder Gates, confirmed to Billboard that her client will continue pursuing unpaid royalties. The lawsuit claims Nelly "repeatedly manipulated" the group regarding payment for their work on his solo album, though he allegedly never fulfilled these promises.
The St. Lunatics, formed by high school friends in St. Louis, first gained recognition with their late 90s hit "Gimme What U Got." Their group album "Free City" reached #1 on the Billboard 200, releasing after Nelly's solo success with "Country Grammar."
The updated lawsuit now includes HarbourView Equity Partners as a defendant, following Nelly's $50 million catalog sale to them last year. While Ali's legal team suggests this transaction influenced the timing of the lawsuit, this claim appears questionable as HarbourView wasn't named in the original filing.
Notably, the three members who withdrew from the lawsuit recently performed with Nelly at the American Music Awards, demonstrating their continued friendship and professional relationship despite the legal dispute.
