The Lion King Composer Lebo M Sells Music Rights to Reservoir Media
Reservoir Media has acquired rights to the catalog of renowned composer Lebohang "Lebo M" Morake, famous for his work on The Lion King and other major film scores.

The South African composer, best known for writing and performing the iconic opening of "Circle of Life" from The Lion King (1994), has contributed to numerous film projects throughout his career. His portfolio includes scores for:
- The Power of One (1992)
- Multiple Lion King projects, including the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King
- Tears of the Sun (2003)
- The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
- The Woman King (2022)
While specific financial terms remain undisclosed, this acquisition strengthens Reservoir's position in the film score market, adding to their existing relationships with composers like Hans Zimmer and Henry Jackman.
"Lebo's music has moved generations of film lovers," stated Reservoir CEO Golnar Khosrowshahi, emphasizing the cultural significance of his work, particularly his contributions to The Lion King.
Morake expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: "I'm proud to join forces with Reservoir, a company that recognizes the power of music to unite and inspire. This partnership will enable me to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and sharing my music with new generations."
This deal adds to Reservoir's extensive catalog of over 150,000 compositions and 36,000 recordings, with the company's shares showing an 18% increase following recent activist investor activity.
