The Dead Boys Record Label: A Look at Their Music Industry Home
The Dead Boys were primarily signed to Sire Records during their most active years in the late 1970s. They released their two major studio albums through this label: "Young, Loud and Snotty" (1977) and "We Have Come for Your Children" (1978).
Sire Records, founded by Seymour Stein, was known for signing numerous influential punk and new wave acts during this era, including the Ramones, Talking Heads, and later, Madonna. The label's willingness to take chances on emerging punk bands made it a perfect home for the Dead Boys' raw, aggressive sound.
Before signing with Sire, the Dead Boys released a single called "Sonic Reducer" on Bomp! Records in 1977. This early release helped them gain attention in the punk scene and ultimately led to their deal with Sire.
After the band's initial breakup in 1979, various compilation albums and live recordings were released through different labels, including:
- Bomp! Records - Revenge Records - Phoenix Records - Line Records
However, their most significant and commercially released material came during their time with Sire Records, which remains the label most associated with the Dead Boys' legacy in punk rock history.
The band's relationship with Sire ended after their second album, coinciding with internal tensions and their eventual dissolution. Any subsequent releases have primarily been through smaller independent labels or reissue specialists.
