"It doesn't taint the song at all for me. It's still my song," Sting stated, referring to his original track "Every Breath You Take," which was sampled in Diddy's 1997 tribute to The Notorious B.I.G.

The collaboration, though initially unauthorized, has generated significant royalties for Sting, with Diddy reportedly paying up to $5,000 daily for the sample usage. Their professional relationship culminated in a memorable joint performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards.

Diddy currently faces federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, with a trial scheduled for May 2025. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center.

Despite the legal controversy, Sting maintains a supportive stance toward the musical collaboration, describing Diddy as a "very good friend" and praising "I'll Be Missing You" as a "beautiful version" of his original work.
