Spotify has reversed its initial stance on Car Thing refunds following a class action lawsuit. The company will now offer refunds to customers who purchased the $90 device directly from Spotify, as the device will become unusable after a firmware update on December 9, 2024.

The decision comes after Car Thing owners filed a lawsuit claiming they weren't informed the device would have such a short lifespan. While Spotify discontinued production in July 2022, they had promised continued support for existing users.

How to Get Your Car Thing Refund:

  1. Contact Spotify Customer Support
  2. Provide proof of purchase (email receipt from Spotify)
  3. Wait 1-3 days for refund processing

Important Notes:

  • Only direct purchases from Spotify are eligible
  • Third-party purchases (eBay, etc.) are not eligible
  • Some users report receiving refunds in multiple installments
  • Original payment method will be refunded when possible
  • Alternative refund methods may be arranged if original payment method is unavailable
