Splendour in the Grass Festival Cancels 2025 Edition Amid Booking Challenges
Splendour in the Grass festival has announced its cancellation for 2025, marking the second consecutive year the event won't take place. The iconic Australian music festival, running since 2001, needs time to "recharge," according to organizers.

The Live Nation-backed festival, held at Ngarindjin/North Byron Parklands since 2013, reportedly struggled to secure high-caliber international headliners. Previous editions featured renowned artists like Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, The Strokes, Lizzo, and Coldplay. The 2024 lineup was set to include Kylie Minogue, Future, and Arcade Fire before its cancellation.
This closure reflects a broader trend in the festival industry's challenges. The Africa Oyé music festival in Liverpool also announced a 2025 hiatus despite record attendance in 2024, citing rising operational costs. The situation has become so critical in the UK that the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) is advocating for government intervention, specifically requesting VAT reduction to 5% on ticket sales.
Festival organizers remain optimistic, promising to return "bigger and better when the time is right" and hinting at new developments for Australian music lovers in the coming months.
