Bia Khalifa is emerging as a controversial figure in Romania's hip-hop scene, challenging social norms while facing significant digital censorship and harassment.

Initially gaining prominence on TikTok before expanding to Instagram and OnlyFans, Khalifa began making music three years ago as a hobby. Her content addresses taboo subjects and challenges conservative Romanian attitudes, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ issues and sex work.
"I write all the things I sing about, and they're mostly something new and different. They are more extreme than what people here are used to seeing," Khalifa explains.
Her career has faced several obstacles:
- Hackers targeting and taking over her Instagram account
- Systematic censorship of LGBTQ+ content creators
- Limited opportunities for LGBTQ+ artists in Romania
- Financial challenges as an independent artist
Despite these challenges, Khalifa has built a dedicated fanbase and released successful tracks including "Uber," "Puta Ama," and "3 2 1 Rec." She currently splits her focus between OnlyFans (50%) and Instagram (50%), with music remaining a passion project.
"If you're gay, bisexual, or LGBTQ in Romania, they will close your account. You cannot be an influencer if you're LGBTQ+ or if you support them. You cannot be a singer. You can be nothing," she states, highlighting the persistent discrimination in the industry.
While considering relocating to Spain, Khalifa continues to pioneer change in Romania's music scene, creating space for marginalized voices despite ongoing challenges and resistance.
