Reservoir acquires Egyptian star Omar Kamal
Omar Kamal has emerged as a prominent figure in Egyptian music over the past decade, particularly for his contributions to mahraganat—a genre blending Egyptian rhythms, electronic music, and rap lyrics. His 2020 hit "Mahragan Bent El Geran," featuring Hassan Shakosh, garnered over 700 million YouTube views and was named one of Rolling Stone's 50 Best Arabic Pop Songs of the 21st century.
The artist's success extends beyond music, with recent singles like "Oud Al batal" and "LGHBTITA" performing strongly on YouTube. In 2021, Kamal expanded his career into acting with a role in the television series Bayn El-Samaa Wa El-Ard.
"I'm excited to strike this deal with Reservoir and PopArabia, a company built for artists and run by artists," said Kamal. "I know this partnership will be a strong motivation for us to do great work together."
PopArabia Vice President Wissam Khodur praised Kamal as "one of the hottest Shaabi artists in Egypt," while Reservoir CEO Golnar Khosrowshahi emphasized the acquisition's strategic importance in expanding their presence in Egypt's dominant Arabic music market.
