Regina Folk Festival Closes Its Doors After More Than 50 Years of Music History
The Regina Folk Festival, a cornerstone of Canadian music culture for over 50 years, has announced its permanent closure due to mounting financial pressures and operational challenges.

The festival's closure reflects broader challenges in Canada's live music industry, which has experienced a 60% revenue decline since the pandemic. Festival operating costs have surged 30-40% since 2019, according to Festivals and Major Events Canada.
Despite taking a strategic hiatus in 2023 to rebuild and restructure, the organization couldn't overcome its financial obstacles. Key challenges included:

The festival is currently processing refunds for 2024 RFF Insider tickets and 2023 "You Had to Be There" tickets. Ticket holders should expect refunds within the next few business days.
The Board of Directors will hold a special meeting this spring to discuss the organization's dissolution process. They expressed gratitude to their long-term supporters, including Canadian Heritage, City of Regina, SK Arts, Tourism Saskatchewan, and TD Bank Group.
