Randy Newman Sells 80% of Music Rights to Litmus Music in Major Catalog Deal
Litmus Music has acquired 80% of Randy Newman's recorded music and publishing rights in their latest high-profile catalog acquisition. The deal encompasses Newman's extensive body of work, including his contributions to animated films and his solo career spanning over five decades.

The acquisition includes Newman's iconic works from animated films such as:
- "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story series
- Soundtracks from Cars and Monsters, Inc.
- Various hit songs including "I Love L.A." (1983), "Feels Like Home" (1990s), and "Mama Told Me Not to Come" (1967)
The deal also covers Newman's dozen solo studio albums, from his 1968 self-titled debut to 2017's "Dark Matter," along with numerous soundtrack albums including Pleasantville (1998) and Marriage Story.
Litmus Music co-founder and CEO Hank Forsyth praised Newman's legacy, stating: "Randy's music has touched so many generations. His songs continue to transcend time and illuminate films." The company has previously secured rights from other major artists including Katy Perry, Keith Urban, and Benny Blanco.
The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, following a recent trend in major catalog acquisitions. Newman, a seven-time Grammy winner and 23-time nominee, joins a growing list of legendary artists who have sold their music rights in recent years.
