PPL has announced its Q4 2024 distribution of £45.3 million ($57.5 million), showing a 7% decrease from Q4 2023's record payout. The distribution includes payments from 69 international CMOs, up from 63 in the previous year, marking a new single-payout record.

Key highlights of the Q4 2024 distribution:

  • Over 137,000 performers and rightsholders received payments
  • Major contributions from France, Netherlands, Sweden, USA, and Portugal
  • First-time payments received from Azerbaijan (RAYS) and Guatemala
  • 9,400 members received their first-ever payment
  • Includes a £2.3 million ($2.9 million) Annual Supplementary Remuneration Fund payment

The distribution incorporates revenue from PPL's sister company VPL, which focuses on music videos. Earlier in 2024, PPL achieved its first-ever distribution exceeding £100 million, and the organization recently joined the Creative Rights in AI Coalition.

The Coalition's key principles include:

  • Establishing a mutually beneficial licensing market
  • Ensuring transparency in AI training
  • Promoting sustainable growth and innovation in the AI space

PPL CEO Peter Leathem emphasized the organization's strong performance in its 90th year, highlighting their expanding global network and commitment to supporting sustainable music careers through their growing CMO partnerships.

The announcement comes as the UK government faces criticism over a proposal allowing tech companies to train AI using copyrighted works, leading to PPL's strategic involvement in the Creative Rights in AI Coalition to protect creators' interests.
