Eric Holder, convicted of killing Nipsey Hussle, has had his appeal denied by California's Court of Appeal Second Appellate District, which upheld the original 2022 guilty verdict.

The appeal was rejected on two main grounds:

  • The court correctly disallowed defense arguments about Holder's state of mind, as he didn't testify and no evidence was presented about his thoughts before the shooting
  • The firearm enhancement to Holder's sentence was properly applied, considering the "high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness" of the crime

The murder, which occurred in 2019, had significant impact on the hip-hop community. Notable artists like Freddie Gibbs have spoken about how the tragedy nearly led them to quit music, with Gibbs addressing the incident in his recent track "On the Set" and new album "You Only Die 1nce."
