Multiple Kendrick Lamar Murals Repeatedly Vandalized in Compton
Two prominent Kendrick Lamar murals in Compton have been repeatedly vandalized, with one incident directly inspiring lyrics in his latest album GNX.
The first mural, painted by Mike Norice on Tam's Burgers (featured in Lamar's "Not Like Us" music video), was defaced last month. A second mural by artists Sloe Motion and Gustavo Zemeño Jr., located on Mi Sabor restaurant, has endured multiple acts of vandalism.

Lamar addressed the vandalism in his album's intro track "wacced out murals," opening with the lines: "Yesterday, somebody whacked out my mural / That energy'll make you n—as move to Europe." The Mi Sabor mural artists later shared security footage of the vandalism on Instagram, finding some consolation in their work being immortalized in Lamar's lyrics.
The timing of these incidents has led to speculation about connections to Lamar's ongoing feud with Drake, who recently filed a lawsuit against UMG regarding Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us."
Mexican mariachi singer Deyra Barrera, who performs the Spanish vocals in "wacced out murals," revealed in a Billboard interview that she was invited to participate in Mike Norice's upcoming YouTube series "Art & Soul" to discuss the mural's significance and its connection to the song.
