The GoFundMe campaign was created for Griffin Goldsmith (Moore's brother-in-law) and his wife Kit, who lost everything in the Eaton fire. The situation is particularly urgent as they are expecting their first child in the coming weeks. Griffin, a touring musician, also lost his entire collection of musical equipment essential for his livelihood.

Moore addressed critics directly through Instagram, stating: "People questioning whether we're helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are."

While Moore and her husband Taylor Goldsmith's Altadena home suffered significant damage, including the loss of their music studio and garage, the main structure remains standing though uninhabitable. The fires, which are only 13% contained in the Pacific Palisades area, have devastated their entire street.

The fundraising campaign has already exceeded its initial $60,000 goal, demonstrating strong community support despite the controversy. Moore expressed feeling survivor's guilt, noting that while their losses were significant, others in their community, including her in-laws, lost everything.

Moore's final message to critics was clear and direct: "Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I'm sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire, too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything."
